I was thrilled when Francesca asked me if I would be willing to join her education initiative, and to represent women of my generation,i.e.60-somethings with hair loss.
As a wig-wearer of just one year now this latest heatwave has been my first experience of coping with heat and alternative hair. Having spent the winter feeling constantly cold as a result of having absolutely no hair (I have Alopecia Universalis) and often resorting to wearing two hats to bed to keep my head warm, and looking forward to feeling hot again, I have tried very hard not to complain about the heat!
I’m still a novice wig wearer – I only joined the amazing community of people wearing alternative and helper hair in the summer of 2020, but it’s through engaging with many of them via Instagram, that I’ve built up some confidence to experiment a bit with the styles and design of the pieces I choose – and come to understand more about what has actually gone into the construction of them in the first place.
